NDP’s Shailer champions Right to Repair for heavy farming equipment

ALVINSTON, ON – Kathryn Shailer, the Ontario NDP candidate for Lambton – Kent – Middlesex, is standing up for farmers against corporate gouging by promoting the Ontario NDP’s new right to repair legislation.

“Farmers deserve equipment they can rely on,” said Shailer. “When farmers and workers need to do necessary maintenance on their machines, they shouldn't be gouged. This bill gives people the right to make decisions about repairs and maintenance on their valuable investments, on their own terms. Our communities need a strong voice that will stand up for farmers, and I'm proud to support an NDP bill that does just that."

Big corporations and manufacturers currently use proprietary maintenance and repair software, tools, manuals to gouge consumers to pay premium costs for repairs instead of giving consumers the right to maintain and repair their equipment.

The Ontario NDP’s Right to Repair legislation, tabled at Queen’s Park this week, would stop big corporate manufacturers from gouging consumers for repairs and maintenance. It would require manufacturers of heavy farming equipment, motor vehicles, household appliances, and electronic products to make the latest repair manuals, repair parts, maintenance tools and software, and more available to consumers and repair businesses.
