MPP GLOVER: Ontario taxpayers could be on the hook to pay Therme $250,000 on July 1st

TORONTO – Ontario NDP MPP Chris Glover (Spadina—Fort York) issued the following statement as taxpayers could be on the hook to give Therme $250,000 every six months beginning July 1st according to the terms of its lease:

“This is a company that lied about their credentials and whose finances are cloaked in secrecy. Now, Ontario taxpayers may be on the hook to send it $250,000 every six months in addition to the $2.2 billion subsidy to build their private spa on public parkland.

“Why would any government sign a contract like this? Either this deal is corrupt, or this government is incompetent.”

BACKGROUND:

The Ontario Auditor General’s report revealed that, “If the conditional termination notice is not issued byTherme then, starting January 1, 2025 Therme may issue an invoice for liquidated damages in the amountof $250,000 every 180 days up to a maximum of $30 million.”
