QUEEN’S PARK – Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles (Davenport) has issued the following statement to celebrate Portugal Day:
“Portugal Day is the official national holiday of Portugal, observed on June 10th each year. The day is intended to remember the death of Luís de Camões, who is recognized as the country's greatest national icon.
Every year, the wonderful Portuguese community here in Toronto gathers in Little Portugal to celebrate the vibrant culture and traditions at the Portugal Day Parade with the help of incredible organizers and community volunteers.
As the MPP for Davenport, I am proud to represent the highest population of Portuguese-Canadians in Ontario and across the country at Queen’s Park.
As the leader of the Official Opposition, I am committed to fighting for a better future that honours the Portuguese-Canadian community – from the first wave of new immigrants who played a large role in building our city, to the younger generation who are building their lives in our province.”

“O Dia de Portugal é o feriado nacional oficial de Portugal, celebra-se no dia 10 de junho anualmente. O dia pretende recordar a morte de Luís de Camões, reconhecido como o maior ícone nacional do país.
Todos os anos, a maravilhosa comunidade portuguesa aqui em Toronto reúne-se no Little Portugal para celebrar a cultura e as tradições vibrantes no Desfile do Dia de Portugal com a ajuda de incríveis organizadores e voluntários comunitários.
Como MPP de Davenport, tenho orgulho de representar a maior população de luso-canadianos em Ontário e todo o país na Queen’s Park.
