London NDP MPPs condemn possible hate crime at London home

LONDON – NDP MPPs Terence Kernaghan (London North Centre), Peggy Sattler (London West), and Teresa Armstrong (London-Fanshawe) released the following statement following a case of arson at a London family home that is being investigated as a possible hate crime:

“This is a chilling and reprehensible attack that we condemn in the strongest possible terms.

Our thoughts are with the family and their community, as well as the Muslim community in London and across the province who are shaken by this incident.

Just three days after marking the anniversary of the terrorist attack against the Afzaal family, an arson attack on another family’s home is now being investigated as a possible hate crime. The family had signs supporting the Afzaal family and calling for the protection of Palestinian human rights, which were repeatedly destroyed. And now their family home – and sense of safety – may have been destroyed as well.

There are no adequate words.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and their neighbourhood. Everyone deserves to feel secure in supporting Our London Family and Palestinians.

We will be monitoring the situation closely to ensure this is handled with seriousness and care and encourage anyone experiencing an incident of hate to reach out to the police.”
