Kitchener Centre rejects Doug Ford’s corrupt politics, support for Ontario NDP remains strong

KITCHENER – Debbie Chapman and the NDP will keep on fighting in Kitchener Centre following a provincial by-election that saw voters overwhelmingly reject Doug Ford and his corrupt politics.

“Debbie ran a strong campaign focused on the issues that mattered. The NDP team from across the province turned up to support her, and we saw a huge number of students and university clubs come out because they all believe in Debbie and her values,” said Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP.

“There’s always work to be done. As a team, we will reflect on the campaign. But the message from Kitchener voters is clear: After more than five years of Doug Ford, life has become harder and more expensive for everyone, except for his select insiders. And people have said no.”

“I’m proud of the campaign we ran. We spoke to thousands of people in-person and over the phone across the riding. Listened to them and exchanged ideas. We mobilized volunteers from not just the region, but across the province. It was encouraging for me to see so many young people and students join the campaign. I know our message resonated with people, and I thank everyone for their hard work, belief and support,” said Chapman.

Chapman congratulated Aislinn Clancy on her by-election win and pledged to make sure Kitchener Centre isn’t left behind.

“Doug Ford is a threat to this province’s well-being and I will keep standing up for the people of Kitchener Centre,” said Chapman.

The Ontario Liberals held Kitchener Centre for 15 years before it went NDP orange in 2018. The Liberals fell to fourth place in today’s by-election.
